The Consulate General of Argentina In Miami
The Consulate General of Argentina in Miami organized a banquet to commemorate The First National Government, a patriotic holiday. It featured a presentation by the Selección Nacional de Tango as well as a speech by the consul general, Ambassador Miguel Talento. The party took place at the Marriott Marquis hotel on Saturday, May 24th, culminating in a toast at midnight to bring in the holiday on the 25th.
Business executives, artists, journalists, and various state and federal representatives came together for the annual event. There were an estimated 600 guests in attendance.
In his speech, Ambassador Talento spoke about the country’s origins and values as well as the diversity Argentines offer to Miami’s burgeoning multicultural landscape.
“Our Miami community – the largest community of Argentines in the US and among the largest anywhere outside of Argentina – is comprised today of around 80,000 people,” he said.” Among them are artists of all kinds; entrepreneurs from small business owners to founders of large corporations; university professors and researchers; skilled professionals in operations management and administration; craftsmen; trained, experienced workers; and graduate and undergraduate students. Many Argentines tried their luck in the 1990s and emigrated to build new horizons and revitalize hope. Now, a decade and a half later, Miami is receiving a different flux of immigrants from Argentina guided by different circumstances. They consist of investors and money savers looking to settle down, own properties, and participate in South Florida’s growing economy and tourism industry.”
The ambassador’s speech was followed by a gourmet dinner, with authentic examples of Argentine cuisine gracing each plate. Cordero patagónico, or roast lamb, was served as the main course, with a choice of Malbec or Torrontes wines.
A first-class tango presentation by the Selección Nacional de Tango resonated while old friends enjoyed catching up once again. The toast at midnight welcomed in the 25th of May with a resounding “Long live Argentina!”
